Dix Park’s new dog park location, details

Dorothea Dix Park’s temporary dog park, which includes more than 3 acres of space off Lake Wheeler Road, will be moving.

The new location will be at Williams Field, not far from the sunflowers field, at Umstead and Blair drives. It’s adjacent to the Big Field area.

Why the move: The first major project of Dix Park is the Plaza & Play, which will be at the site of the current dog park. The Dix Park Plaza & Play will include open spaces, an amphitheater, a playground and even an interactive waterfall.

When the future dog park could open: Spring 2022. Construction is expected to start in winter 2021.

What the new dog park will include: Separate sections for large and small dogs, shaded areas, water stations and grass. It will be a similar size, 3+ acres.
