Raleigh has dog parks and Raleigh has dog-friendly bars. But what about something that combines the two, plus some climate control? Enter West Street Dog.

West Street Dog recently opened at 400 N. West Street in Downtown Raleigh and are staffing up for everything they will offer.

For now, the bar and off-leash dog park is open at limited hours, while doggie daycare and bathing services are offered a few days per week. Watch the @weststdog Instagram for the most up-to-date hours.

The humans behind West Street Dog: Laura Muntel runs West Street Dog and also operates and co-owns the Suite Paws Pet Resort east of the Beltline. All the owners are local, she said, with her brother Tom Rhoads (who also co-owns Suite Paws) and other partners Ben and Jess Eberdt (who also own GoDog in Durham) and Grey Littlewood.

Why Downtown Raleigh: “We felt there was a need for a dog daycare and boarding in downtown Raleigh so we had been looking for a spot for years,” Laura said.

She mentioned location is close to the growing Smoky Hollow development. Between Peace Raleigh Apartments and The Line, about 700 new apartments are now in the area.

“I feel most of our clientele will be people who can walk here and who work in the downtown area.”

What’s next: The dog park and bar could open to full hours soon, and cat boarding just started. “Once we are fully staffed, we will open up everything,” Laura said.

How West Street Dog bar, membership works

The on-leash front bar

The front bar is an on-leash, dog-friendly area for anyone 21 and older, no dog park membership required.

Once fully open, the on-leash front bar will be open 3-9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 3-10 p.m. Fridays, 12-10 p.m. Saturdays and 12-8 p.m. Sundays. Watch the @weststdog Instagram for the most up-to-date hours.

The off-leash dog park and back bar is for members only.

To become a member, dogs must be up to date on certain vaccines, be spayed or neutered, and pass a temperament test. A monthly pass for one dog is $28, $40 for two. Daily passes are available for $8.

Once fully open, the off leash park and back bar will be open 6-9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 6-10 p.m. Fridays, 12-10 p.m. Saturdays and 12-8 p.m. Sundays. Watch the @weststdog Instagram for the most up-to-date hours.

There’s a large dog park section and a small dog park section, both will be used for doggie daycare.

Daycare opened Aug. 10, and pricing begins at $26/half day for one dog and goes up to $96/day for three dogs. Dogs must be up to date on certain vaccines, be spayed or neutered, and pass a temperament test. Reservations are required for daycare.
